C. 1900s Extra Lg. Medical Lab Desiccator with Ground Glass Lid amp Rim

75 USD

Here's something you don't see every day. An early Medical Research Laboratory Desiccator with the original removable aluminum screen. This is one of the largest medical jars you'll ever see.

Desiccators are used to dry substances by placing them inside together with a drying agent such as salt. They can also be used to store substances at a constant, controllable humidity level by placing a substance with specific hygroscopic properties, and which has already absorbed water, in the desiccator.

This desiccator is larger than most with very thick glass weighing a whopping 21 pounds. It stands 13" tall and 13-1/2" wide so it holds quite a lot. Both the rim of the jar itself and the lid have a 1-1/2" wide band of ground glass to seal it properly. They also have air bubbles in the glass giving it an early manufacturing date.

This is in a remarkable useable condition with no cracks in the glass however it does have two small chips on the rim. Price:
